My latest craft project!

I bought these neat flower alphabet wall cards from Land of Nod and hung them in our sunroom/playroom on ribbon that I tied to these sunflower hooks I bought at a local shop. I had tried double sided tape but after a few fell I decided clothes pins were my best option. I stained the clothes pins in a walnut stain and then hot glued this neat paper on them just to give the clothes pins a different look. The kids agree they make learning the alphabet just a little more fun! I really like Land of Nod's room decor, they have a lot of really affordable stuff!

Our Amana Colonies Fun!

We have lived in Iowa for around 3 years and I had heard that the Amana Colonies was definitly worth the drive for the antique shops and food. Emma and I really liked the Red Geranium Shop. Emma is pictured by the sign. It is a fun whimsical shop with lots of neat iron accents for inside or outside your home, neat outdoor flags, candles, etc.! And of course lots of red Geraniums!

We also stopped by the Village Store Fudge Factory for the sweet tooth in us, very good! And pictured here Ethan in front of the old Warping Wheel. We went right before the flood. So I hope the buildings were not damaged by the flood. We had a good time with some friends from our church!

For a good cause!

A few weeks ago we helped our church by handing out these packages with a Bible and info to some of the surrounding neighborhoods; the kids really thought it was fun! We just put them on porches for about an hour and it was a neat experience to share with the kids and a great workout for Mario and me! Although I think Emma had more people comment on her new cool sunglasses!

We have been so busy painting the back of our house, a deep gray, that it is so nice to just take a step back from that project and enjoy the kids! Anything to keep our minds off the devastation from our Cedar River flooding last week. We were very fortunate that our home was not flooded. But it is so hard to see all the devastation in our city. We live just a few miles from where the river flooded so it is very close to home for us. We were outside Sat. evening and we could smell the sour water when the wind would hit in a certain direction. I can't even imagine the sadness the homeowners must feel. But there were very few people that were hurt which is just amazing and everything that was destroyed can and will be rebuilt. We had a very wet and snowy winter as you can see on our blog so all the rain we have had over the last few weeks just had no place to go. The historical Paramount Theater where Emma had her dance recital was flooded. I have a pic on the blog of her standing in front of it. The good news is that neighbors are helping neighbors and this disaster has brought our community closer.

We have also been working on landscaping our back yard which is turning out to be a bigger and more expensive project than we expected. We bought the kids a 15 ft trampoline and they love it. Of course we had to get the enclosure with it but it has turned out to be a great investment! The kids seem to be in bed early these days...

My uncle sent this cool Playmobil doll house which she loved! Her vanity, this doll house, and her Polly pocket pool party were the big hits of this little girls party!!! We had to play Polly outside today. It's pretty fun, it's a little swimming pool with 2 slides, add your water and the dolls and let the party begin, thanks to her Grandparents!

Emma got a vanity for her big 4th Birthday with makeup! She decided to try out her new lipgloss all over her face! Looks like I'll have to teach her how to apply her makeup, but I'm in no rush! Maybe in another 20 years... They grow up so fast, don't they!

We still haven't had time to get the base boards in but we did get our first plant in our muti- functional room. We are calling it our sunroom/playroom for now! And loving the space. Before we painted and pretty much just redid the whole room, I hated this room. It was just a catch all room. But now Mario and I agree we love it! And I'm very excited about our new Hibiscus! We bought it at Sam's Club for $14.99 this weekend which is really cheap if you have priced them! I love the twisted bark. We found this nice glazed pot at Home Depot and stand to give it some height so our 2 fat cats can't chew on the leaves. We want to plant some lavender as well to give the room a nice smell! We hung some lights on these antique hooks across the ceiling. I got the idea from Olive Garden! Mario put a dimmer on the lights which is really relaxing. We plan on some nice summer nights in our fun room. Its amazing what a little paint and hard work can do for a room!!!

Last Sat. we worked all day in our soon to be garden! First Mario had to weed eat the entire area which took up most of our day. But we knew we had to get it down to the dirt before we could plant. Then we borrowed a rototiller from our friends which was a little more exciting. I think Mario actually enjoyed that part as you can tell by these pictures I took! Then the best part, planting our pumpkin and corn seeds! I'm hoping we will have something grow after all our hard work. The kids got to plant the seeds which they loved. I'll keep you updated on the progress. This is very exciting for us because Mario and I have never tried to grow pumpkins or corn before. I am looking foward to this fall and I'm hoping we can have a Fall Harvest party and decorate some of our pumpkins! Plus what a neat fall display we could have with all our corn stalks and different pumpkins. We planted 2 varieties of corn and 4 varieties of pumpkins! I'm hoping for a sucess!!! :)

Memorial Day

I hope everyone enjoys a nice Memorial Day with their families. Since today is Emma's 4th Birthday we plan on doing whatever she can dream up, within reason of course. We celebrated with a nice Cinderella party yesterday with some friends from our church. She had a really good time. I will post some pics later. We had hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon (which Emma now loves) and of course white Cinderella cake! It was from Target and we have tried bakeries and all the local grocery stores and we think Target has the best birthday cake! Have a fun day. ~Amy
